What Oklahoma actually shoots

This state changes every hundred miles. The Panhandle is shortgrass and wind, the middle is Cross Timbers blackjack and red clay, and the southeast is pine hills that look more like Arkansas. What ties it together is that almost all of it is private land, most of it holds whitetails, and a growing share of it has feral hogs rooting up the wheat. So the guns that sell here are practical ones: a .308 or .270 bolt rifle for the sixteen-day gun season in November, an AR in 5.56 or .300 Blackout that rides in the truck for hogs and coyotes, and a 12-gauge that does turkey in April and dove on the first of September.

Oklahoma law stays out of the way. There is no permit to purchase, no registration, no waiting period, no magazine limit and no ban on any class of semi-automatic rifle. Cities and counties cannot write their own firearm ordinances (21 O.S. 1289.24), so the rules in Tulsa are the rules in Guymon.
